कर्क संक्रांति समय काल में सूर्य को पितरों का अधिपति माना जाता है। कर्क संक्रांति से वर्षा ऋतु का आगमन हो जाता है और देवताओं की रात्रि प्रारंभ हो जाती है। इस दिन सूर्य देव के साथ ही अन्य देवता गण भी निद्रा में चले जाते हैं। सृष्टि का भार भोलेनाथ संभालते हैं, इसीलिए श्रावण मास में शिव पूजन का महत्व बढ़ जाता है।
28 जुलाई से श्रावण मास आरंभ हो जाएगा और सावन का पहला सोमवार 30 जुलाई को होगा। 27 जुलाई को गुरु पूर्णिमा के अलावा चंद्र ग्रहण भी है।

पाताल के राजा बलि के यहां करेंगे आराम

इस दिन श्रीहरि शयन करने चले जाते हैं। इस अवधि में श्रीहरि पाताल के राजा बलि के यहां चार मास निवास करते हैं। वास्तव में यह एक पारंपरिक धारणा है कि सृष्टि का कार्यभार संभालते हुए भगवान विष्णु बहुत थक जाते हैं। तब माता लक्ष्मी उनसे निवेदन करती है कि कुछ समय उन्हें सृष्टि की चिंता और भार छोड़ देना चाहिए।
तब विष्णु भगवान देवों के देव महादेव को भार देकर चले जाते हैं। हिमालय से महादेव पृथ्वीलोक पर आए भोले 4 मास तक संसार की गतिविधियां संभालते हैं। इसके बाद वह कैलाश की तरफ रूख करते हैं।
यह दिन एकादशी का ही होता है। जिसे देवउठनी एकादशी या देवप्रबोधिनी एकादशी कहते हैं। इस दिन हरिहर मिलन होता है। इस साल यह एकादशी 19 नवंबर 2018 को है। इस दिन चातुर्मास नियम भी समाप्त हो जाते हैं।भगवान शिव गृहस्थ होते हुए भी सन्यासी हैं अत: उनके राज में विवाह आदि कार्य वर्जित होते हैं।
